Crawford began her career working for large companies, such as Price Waterhouse Cooper, focusing on technical finance, mergers and acquisitions, financial analyses, and comptroller work. She then moved into emerging brands and began working with entrepreneurs in the early 1990s. She credits her success with emerging brands to her background and early experiences with large corporations.
She quickly understood the dynamics of companies going public or remaining private, bankruptcy and turnaround, and early-stage growth. Her early finance experience spanned public and private debt, treasury, financial reporting, operations, and corporate accounting.
