Bubble Letter J – How to Draw Your Bump J. J is the tenth letter of the alphabet and one of the easiest to learn to write. You’re creating a curved line that resembles a fishhook in the letter’s uppercase or lowercase version. Writing the letter is quite easy to learn, but we are not here to create a regular version of this letter! Instead, we’ll show you how to create a bubble letter J.

We’ll walk you through 6 fun and easy steps to show you how to draw it and add some details to make it look even better. Not only that but there will also be a section at the end that explores some fun ideas you can try to make it even more unique. Let’s not linger any longer as we dive right into the first step!

Step 1

As we mentioned in the introduction, the letter J is a simple curved shape that resembles a fishhook. Sometimes a capital J might have a line across the top, but we won’t have that in this layout. With that in mind, we will draw this note’s first part. Before you start drawing any lines, we recommend planning it first with a pencil. To build the bubble version, you can draw a large, regular J shape. You don’t have to do that, but it can certainly help! For this step, we’ll draw a curved, round line for the bottom left of the letter. Once you’ve drawn that section of the letter to match our reference image, we can move on to step 2.

Step 2

We will keep things very simple in this second step of the guide. In this part, we will extend the line we started in the previous step. We drew the small “tail” area of the J in the last step; in this one, we’ll draw the base of the letter. Keep the line where you finished the previous step and the curve. As you can see in the reference image, this line will start to curve up. We’ll create the main pillar of the J where that line ends, but that will come in the next few steps. For now, try to match the drawing to our example as best. We can then move on to step 3, where we will continue building this card.

Step 3

In this third step of the focus, we will begin to draw the central pillar of the bump for the letter J. This will be done by adding a slightly curved vertical line. As you can see in the reference image we provided, this line will extend from where the line ended in Step 2. Drawing this line should be straight but not too straight. We don’t want the lines to be too straight, as we want the letter to look like it’s made of a bubble. Once you’ve drawn this side of the pillar, there will be a large space to the left. The next step will see you finish the outline before adding some interior details.

Step 4

As we noted in step 3, this fourth step of the focus will end the design of this letter J. To do this, we’ll use a curved, wavy line to fill in the space on the left side of the letter. It will start where the line ended in the last step at the top of the J. It will slope downward, then curve sharply upward to end with the tail of the J. Once that line has been drawn, the outline of the J letter J J J will be complete!

Now you’re ready to draw some internal details but make sure you’re ready before moving on to the fifth step. One way to do this is by erasing the pencil lines you used to prepare the drawing. We first noted how to draw the regular letter J with a pencil. If you did that, now would be a good time to remove it. Then it’s time for step 5, where we’ll add some cool internal details to the letter!

Step 5

The main goal of this guide was to take the letter J and make it look like it’s made of a bubble or balloon. Now we’ll help finish this effect with some simple details. First, we’ll make the letter look reflective by drawing simple oval shapes. As you can see in the reference image, we’ll be using two of these oval shapes. There will be one at the top of the J and one at the end of the tail on the left side of the letter. You can also add some more reflective points if you want! Next, we’ll create the illusion that the J is made of a bubble or balloon by adding texture lines to the letter.

These will go inside the outline and help make it look more like an object than a flat letter. This detail will allow you to add more of these lines if you want the effect to be stronger. Once these lines are drawn, you can add color in the sixth step! However, you don’t have to move on just yet. Before coloring your image, you can also add some fun extra details. For example, you could draw a background for the image. This could be a simple background pattern or draw an actual setting. We’ll look at some ideas you can try after the next step, but you can think of some ideas in the meantime.

Step 6

It’s always fun to kick back with some coloring fun, and that’s what we’ll do in this final step. This is your chance to show your color creativity! Our example image shows you one of the many color possibilities you have for your drawing. We chose a shady blue color scheme as the main theme of this photo. Although dark blue is the main color, we also used lighter shades. Mixing light and dark tones can make the reflective parts more visible and make the image look less flat.

You can select the same colors we did, but you can even use any color you like! It doesn’t hold to be all one color, either. There are also some fun ways to incorporate many colors, so you should get creative and explore options with your favorite art tools. With that, your drawing is complete!
